American Idol April 15: Top 7 Sing Mariah Carey

The Idols are singing songs from their mentor Mariah Carey tonight, and I can’t think of anyone who is less excited about this than I am! I love (most) of the Idols, but can you imagine Jason Castro with his finger in his ear, hitting eight octaves? Ick!

8:00 p.m.: David Archuleta is up first and he’s singing “When You Believe.” Mariah convinced him to squeeze out a couple of high notes. Randy it was the bomb and David is able to sing anything, Paula said David made Mariah proud, and Simon said it was very very good. 1-866-IDOLS-01–Don’t forget to vote for your favorite this week!

8:15 p.m.: Carly Smithson is second and noted that it was boring without Michael Johns there. She’s singing “Without You.” Randy she needed to support her lower range but it was pretty good, Paula liked that she showed restraint at the beginning and made her vocals swell, and Simon said she didn’t pull it off. 1-866-IDOLS-02

8:25 p.m.: Syesha Mercado is up third and is singing “Vanishing.” Randy said she did a good job “all things considered,” Paula said it was unbelievably magical, Simon said it was very good, but at this stage in the competition he wouldn’t have chosen a song that nobody knew. 1-866-IDOLS-03

8:35 p.m.: Brooke White is fourth and is singing “Hero.” Randy said he appreciated the singer-songwriter vibe. Paula the unplugged version was very good and she is very authentic. Simon thought it was like ordering a hamburger but only getting the bun. He said her voice wasn’t strong enough. 1-866-IDOLS-04

8:40 p.m.: Kristy Lee Cook sings fifth. She’s singing “Forever.” Randy said it wasn’t amazing but she stepped it up at the end, Paula said she was blown away, and Simon said it was a bit whiny and wasn’t great. 1-866-IDOLS-05.

8:50 p.m.: David Cook is sixth and is sixth and is singing “Always be my Baby.” Randy said he is ready to make an album and it was the most brave performance yet, Paula said that version could be in a movie soundtrack, and Simon said it was like coming out of karaoke hell into a breath of fresh air! 1-866-IDOLS-06

8:55 p.m.: Jason Castro is last but not least and he’s singing “I Don’t Wanna Cry.” Randy said he didn’t like it, it was like a weird beach luau, Paula said he was amazing, and Simon said he agreed with Paula and the guys won the night. 1-866-IDOLS-07

Final verdict, I retract my former statement! I thought everyone did pretty well! Don’t forget to VOTE this week so we don’t have another shocker like last week!
