American Idol will have 3 live shows next week. On Tuesday April 8, 2008 (4-8-08) the Top 8 American Idols will perform to the Theme of inspirational songs. On April 9, 2008 (4-9-08) the Idol Gives Back telethon will air from 7:30-10PM. Then the added show on Thursday April 10, 2008 (4-10-08) will be the live voted off American Idol results show.

On Tuesday, April 8 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), the Top 8 finalists (Brooke White, Carly Smithson, David Archuleta, David Cook, Jason Castro, Kristy Lee Cook, Michael Johns and Syesha Mercado) will return to the Idol stage for a special performance show that features inspirational songs.

The following night, Wednesday, April 9 (7:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), the Emmy Award-winning IDOL GIVES BACK returns with an illustrious group of celebrity participants to help raise awareness and funds to benefit various U.S. and international charities. The one-of-a-kind philanthropic special will feature appearances by incredible international artists and sports figures including Bono, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Mariah Carey, Robin Williams, Celine Dion, Forest Whitaker, Billy Crystal, Dane Cook, Kiefer Sutherland, Fergie, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, John Legend, Snoop Dogg, Maroon 5, Heart, Gloria Estefan, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Jennifer Connolly, Elliott Yamin, Fantasia and Amy Adams.

One more finalist will go home and IDOL winner Jordin Sparks and recording sensation Chris Brown will perform “No Air” on a special results show, Thursday, April 10 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed).

The Added 4-10-8 show leads to speculation of a rumor that has been floating around the Spoiler Boards for AI for some time now. Rumor has it that one of the prior voted off contestants from the top 24 will get a chance to earn a spot on the American Idol Summer Tour. Five former contestants would compete for your votes for one of them to be added to the Tour. The five would perform on the Idol Gives Back night and your call in votes would bring One of them back to the summer tour. This is all a rumor, of course.

But according to Nigel Lythgoe American Idol Producer it’s not happening:

“As previously announced, no one will get voted off the show during Idol Gives Back. The American Idol results show will air on the following night after Idol Gives Back. When asked if he considered creating some other type of carrot to get viewers to tune in, Lythgoe responded, “Yeah of course we did. For my money, this isn’t about a carrot. I don’t want to cheat the audience here. This is about a wonderful show with incredible talent involved with it, asking you to do something about what’s going on in the world, end of story. After that, carrots are just misleading the audience and stink”
