American Idol Top 9 April 1 2008 Performance Recap Review
For the April Fools Additions of American Idol on 4-1-08 the Top 9 Idols were mentored by none other than Dolly Parton. Yes American It was Country Music Night on Idol today and it showed, with lack luster performances and phone it in versions of Dolly songs.
After a Lame Ryan Seacrest April Fools Joke Attempt Idol was under the gun to get 9 singers, 9 mentor video’s and 9 critics for the talking bobble head American Idol Judges all in under one Hour with the allotment of commercials.
Idol opened with versatile and lovely Brooke White. Brooke White sang the Dolly Classic “Jolene” and did
a fairly good job with her soft voice. American Idol Judge Randy Jackson said, ” It suits your voice, it was pitchy at time, and seemed rushed it was alright”. Paula Abdul whose comments are mostly about the contestants appearance and references to different colors in the rainbow, said, “you are consistent, you can see your heart and soul, you are Brooke White and are Awesome“.
Thanks for clearing that up Paula, we where not 100% sure that the Brooke White we saw on the video, and the Brooke White that just finished singing was the Brooke White we were supposed to see. But yeah for Paula and her Judging comments to keep up up to speed..
Simon Cowell stated, “there was no emotion, it looked odd all together on stage as a group. It wasn’t one of your best, I wasn’t crazy about it.”.

David Cook was the second Idol to sing this evening. Prior to his song and mentor video introduction, David Cook did give “Cover Arrangement Credit” to Doxology, Chris Cornell and a host of others including but not
limited to The Hair Club for Men, Sgt Pepper but not the Lonely Hearts Club band etc. ( just a bit of embellishment there - sorry!)
David Cook took on the Dolly Parton song “Little Sparrow“. Judge Randy said, ” That showed your range, another hot performance.” Paula added, “I like your Haircut, I never heard a boy sing that song before, it was fantastic it showed strength” Simon Cowell said, “It wasn’t as good as last week, but if you can sing a song about a Sparrow and sound good, which you did, Fantastic.”

The 3rd to hit the American Idol stage and spotlight was pint sized Ramiele Malubay. Let’s just get it over with and say goodbye to Malubay. Her weak performance of “Do I ever Cross Your Mind” was as
Simon would say “forgettable” and hard to site through even though it was only 1 minute and 30 seconds long.
Randy stated, “I wasn’t jumping up or down it was a pretty good performance, and 6 and 1/2 out of 10“. Paula said, ” you had a great 1 minute and 30 seconds and you connected“. With Randy talking numbers, Paula talking time, it was only natural for Simon to talk place. Which he did. Simon said, “It is not a song you will remember in 10 years, it was cute, sung well , Forgettable and something you would hear on a Cruise ship” Thanks Simon, you nailed that one!!

Stoner Jason Castro dreads and all came on to sing “Traveling Thru“

Back–Did I just call Jason Castro a Stoner? Well that’s what most of you were thinking anyway right?
Randy Jackson said of Jason Castro’s “Traveling Thru” song performance, ” Started rough, but you picked it up. it was pretty good , you worked it out“. Paula said, ” Your voice sounds strong and rich, I loved it“. Simon who was visibly upset about having to sit through another Dolly Parton song had the comment of the evening when he lost it and said, ” this is the point where I lose my season pass to Dollywood, It sounded like the same song we just heard before, sorry but it doesn’t suit you. If this was the first time I see you, I wouldn’t get it“.
Note to Simon: You caught yourself Simon, Good Boy…it’s only an Hour Simon, and for the several Million you get a year to be an Ass, suck it up, we only have 5 more people to hear.
Note to Nigel Lithgo: your judges always complain about the song choices, Give the Idols a List of Good Songs alright already!!

In the 5th spot of the Top 9 American Idol April 1,m 2008 performance show, Carly Smithson came on to
sing “Here You Come Again”
Randy said, “I do believe that will be the best performance of the night.”
Paula added, ” Glorious, Amazing, Talented - Burp”
Simon getting meaner and angrier by the second, said “It was good, not great, You have to have a word with whoever is dressing you, You have to look like a star”
Ryan Seacrest came to Carly’s defense and called out Simon, whom is usually dressed in a Black, Grey or White T-shirt and slacks.

Another Slow Ballad came from David Archuleta as he took on the song, “Smokey Mountain Memories“. Yawn, can wonderboy do a up tempo song? Is he stuck on only ballads? have we found the Kryptonite of the Superman Archuleta? The Achilles Heel of Archuleta?
Randy said, “David Archuleta is Back, That was the best performance of the night”
Paula gleamed, “Amazing tone, Beautiful Aura”
Simom muttered, ” Last we I have an issue with the song, this was absolutely on the money”
Ps. Evil Stage Dad Jeff Archuleta sitting in the audience looked pleased! ( Guess no berating on Little David tonight)

KLC otherwise known as Kristy Lee Cook was in her element tonight with the Dolly Parton County Motif. KLC sang “Coat of Many Colors” and actually did a good job, to my disgust.
American Idol Judge Randy said, ” Country Music is your Wheelhouse. This is Kristy Lee Cook’s Week“. Ok Randy what the hell does that mean, I understand most of your Ebonics, but I guess I have to look up wheelhouse, and attempt to put it into a sentence that makes sense.
Noun 1. wheelhouse - an enclosed compartment from which a vessel can be navigated
pilothouse
bridge deck, bridge - an upper deck where a ship is steered and the captain stands
compartment - a partitioned section, chamber, or separate room within a larger enclosed area
Conning tower - an armored pilothouse on a warship.
Nope still didn’t make sense. “KLC was Good According to Randy and his Wheelhouse”
Paula said, “You look Strong, beautiful performance”
Simon stated, “Last week was best, that was pleasant but Forgettable”

Syesha Mercado was the 8th performer on the American Idol April 1, 2008 Top 9 stage and sang the Dolly
Parton Written but Whitney Houston Diva Song “I will always Love You“. In a strange arrangement of slow Dolly style mixed with and up tempo belting Whitney Houston Style, Syesha Mercado definitely made the song her own, but her own wasn’t good.
Randy Said, “You took on the Biggest Tiger of the Night, It was Alright”
Paula Said, “Your voice is ……. you connected with the audience”
Simon Said, ” One of the Best Pop Songs ever, the 1st pat sounded good, the 2nd part paled in comparison to Whitney. It was good, but am not a fan of that version of the song.”

The last performer of the American Idol April Fools 2008 Edition was Michael Johns as the Idol hour was running over.
Michael Sang “It’s all Wrong, But it’s Alright“. His version was definitely I tunes download
worthy.

Dolly Parton Week is almost over, except for here appearance and song on Tomorrow 4-2-08 voted off American Idol results show.
Ramiele Malubay should be going home based on two weeks of bad performances, but this is American Idol and you never know who will be voted off!
