Why did American Idol David Archuleta Sing a Song of Year of Birth from 1985?David Archuleta American Idol Conspiracy

American Idol David Archuleta Song of Year of Birth Conspiracy? or just special rules apply to the Lip Licking Musical Robot?

On the March 25, 2008 American Idol Show, the theme was from songs of the singer Birth Year. David Archuleta was born in 1990. His song choice was “You’re the Voice“.

“You’re the Voice” is a song written by Andy Qunta, Keith Reid, Maggie Ryder and Chris Thompson for John Farnham, which he recorded in 1985 for his sixteenth album Whispering Jack (first released 1986).

The song was awarded the 1987 Aria Award for “Single of the Year”. The song was one of the biggest hits of the year in Australia, topping the singles chart there for many weeks. It is also one of Farnham’s biggest international successes, among reaching number 6 in the United Kingdom. A cover Version was released by David Foster with vocalist Jeff Pescetto on 1990 album River Of Love. Source Wiki

So why would Idol producers allow Little David Archuleta to perform a song from 1985-1986 when he was supposed to sing a song from his birth year. Because David Foster Did a Cover of it in 1990? Hummm

Idol Judge Simon Cowell said, ” I’ll be amazed if you picked that song yourself”. The judges talked among themselves and mentioned that it was a song from an Australian song writer.

So What Gives?

Could it have been a connection or back yard deal with Stage Dad Jeff Archuleta and the Powers that Be on Idol, David Foster and about royalty checks from I-Tunes?

TV with Meevee write:

David is singing “You’re The Voice,” which was recorded by David Foster, who’s now working on an album with Katherine McPhee. The hell with a strategy aimed at viewers, David’s picked a song to appeal to record producers! Very clever. Stupid, cheezy song and a boring performance, but points for strategy, and for knowing that even with a disaster he can’t possibly get voted off because he’s by far the cutest boy on the show.

I have to check to make sure all the other 9 songs were actually written in the Year of the Birth of the Current Contestants or is it just special treatment and weird shenanigans going on around David Archuleta.

[...] We are down to the Top 10 on American Idol and on 3-25-08 the contestants were to sing songs from the year of their birth. All of them did so with the exception of David Archuleta who actually sang a song written from 1986 but covered from 1990 by David Foster. This was exceptionally weird and we covered that in an earlier post. [...]
