The American Idol Season 7 contest has reached the Top 12. The theme for tonights 2 hour spectacular on
Fox this evening, March 11, 2008 will be songs from the John Lennon - Paul McCartney collection.
However we learned from recent interviews that it’s not the full collection of available songs. More like just 25 to chose from. Once one Idol picks a song the small list gets even smaller to chose from. We are sure to hear the judges say “Wrong Song Choice” but with a limited list, that should not be a valid argument or criticism.
In an Interview with American Idol Singing Coach Lynda Byrd and Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe we learned:
How big is the list of songs the contestants get to choose from?
BYRD: Well, it depends on the genre. It narrows down when there’s a theme. I’ve never counted, but, for instance, [with this week's] songs, [from the Lennon-McCartney songbook], there’s only 25 to choose from.
What other theme nights can we expect this season?
LYTHGOE: Well, we’ve got four mentors. And then after that, there’s a lot of good tricks that we’ve used before. There’s music that was written in the year you were born. That’s always good for me, because the more I can get people to know the singers, the easier it is to decide if you like them or not. And I love putting their baby photos up, because everybody looks cute as a baby. It’s a nice little thing to introduce their family to you.

American Idol Judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul had a busy day yesterday promoting their New Album and Idol in general. Randy and Paula were on “The Today Show” and “The View”. Paula also had an appearance on “Late Night With David Letterman”.
According to MJ’s Blog Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul were commenting on:
The new season: Randy thinks their is more originality than in past seasons. Both Randy and Paula pimp Carly Smithson, hard. When pressed for potential winners, Randy and Paula mention David Archuleta, Brooke White, Michael Johns and Carly Smithson as favorites.

In Another interview with American Idol Producer Nigel Lythgoe, he says:
“This is not a one-horse race,” says executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, who calls this the best top 12 ever. “When Yoko Ono calls up and says things like, ‘Please tell David Archuleta I loved him singing Imagine,’ and Lionel Richie (said he) loved David Cook doing Hello, you know you’ve got a good bunch.”
American Idol Randy Jackson about David David Archuleta :
“He’s in the leader’s role right now, for sure, but also there are some other talented boys too. Jason Castro did [Leonard Cohen’s] ‘Hallelujah,’ last week. There’s David Cook too,” Jackson said. “And on the girls’ side, there’s Carly [Smithson], there’s Brooke [White]. They’re coming on. It’s too early to tell. You got to keep an open mind, America.”
American Idol Snarky Judge Simon Cowell was spotted cruising around Hollywood and L.A. in his new $1,000,000 Bugatti Veyron, the world’s most expensive and fastest street-legal car.
Hey Simon, that’s a bit “old fashioned and cabaret” don’t you think?
