American Idol Monday Morning Grab Bag News 3-10-08

Openly Gay Talk show host Rossie O’Donnell wants recently voted off Idol contestant Danny Noriega to join here as a performer on an up coming All Gay Cruise. Rosie would like Danny to perform his “Tainted Love” song.
“I don’t know if you have to sit around the American Idol studio and, like, look sad for the next few weeks,” says Rosie O’Donnell, “but a week from tomorrow, an R Family Cruise is leaving from San Diego for Cabo San Luco.” (A voice behind her then said that it’s going to Puerto Vallarta, but whatever.) “So, Danny Noriega,” Ro continued, “you’ve got a free cruise. You and a friend. I want you to sing ‘Tainted Love,’ and I think you’re fantastic. I think you’re a bold and brave and beautiful young man. I admire you, Danny Noriega, and you have an amazing voice…. So why don’t you come on the cruise?”

The Top 12 Idols will be singing songs from the John Lennon/ Paul McCartney song list this week, 3-11-08 on the Tuesday March 11, 2008 performance show. Idol Producer Nigel Lythgoe states:
“When the Top 12 sing for the first time this season, it will be the music of Lennon and McCartney,” he told Seacrest. “We’ve given them a list because it’s all of the early songs — from ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ to ‘Got to Get You Into My Life.’ These fantastic songs. It’s one of the few areas that everybody knows.”
USA Today is publishing an insert that cost $4.95 that will be a 48 page information packed edition on all things American Idol. It will cover the current Season 7 as well as look back on all the previous season.
The special edition offers detailed bios on all 12 finalists from season seven and explains why everyone is hooked on this TV phenomenon. We look at this season’s fashion hits and misses, from Chikezie’s orange suit to Syesha’s sophisticated neck scarves, and get Simon’s most memorable put-downs from season seven. The issue also provides readers with a pullout weekly scorecard to track the final 12 contestants, list what they sang, the judges’ observations and to track who got voted out.
The USA TODAY special edition on “American Idol” reviews the top 10 Idol performances over the past six seasons and gives a detailed “Where are they now.” Jordin Sparks answers questions from USA TODAY; we examine the transformation of Clay Aiken from geek chic to Spamalot; talk about how Carrie Underwood went from country girl to red-carpet glamazon; and look at all the Idols on Broadway, from Ruben in “Ain’t Misbehavin’” to Frenchie in “Rent.”
The publication is also about the best and worst “American Idol” moments, on-screen and off. Kady Malloy recently voted off American Idol hottie states she wants to be a Gay Rights Activist according to Reality TV Magazine.
“Well, my best friend is gay. Freddie Mercury was gay, who’s my idol. I just think that, you know, you shouldn’t define somebody by their sexuality, and I think that gay people not being able to get married and things like that is just like history repeating itself, and I think that we need to learn from our past.”
The press as well as fans are still eating up David Archuleta as the top American Idol future winner.![]()
“His rendition of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ is the second-best vocal ever on the show,” says Billboard’s Fred Bronson. “In a different era, he would already have a recording contract.”
“His appeal is all-American and wholesome,” says New York Image Consultants’ Amanda Sanders.
American Idol recorded over 36 million voted in the quest for the Top 12, which is an increase over last years vote totals at this time.
