American Idol Top 8 Boys 3-4-08 Recap Review
The remaining Top 8 American Idol boys took their half of the Top 16 performance show this evening Tuesday March 4, 2008. The theme for this week was songs from the 1980’s. It was also the idol video introduction in which each contestant would hare their most embarrassing moments with the viewing audience.
First to take the Idol Stage Live was Luke Menard with his 1980’s George Michael and WHAM song “Wake Me Up Before You Go - Go“. Ouch, based on that performance it won’t be long before we see Luke Go Go as in being voted off American Idol.
American Idol Judge Randy Jackson, said of Luke’s performance. ” You started out rough, but you got it going in the end. It was kind of corny, it was just alright.”
Judge Paula Abdul added, “I was surprised you picked that song, but I love you interpretation of it.”
American Idol Judge Simon Cowell said, “Luke, I didn’t like it at all,it was weak, girly, there is no chance you will make it to the top 12 -it wasn’t very good sorry“.
We could be seeing Luke Menard Go Go Home really soon, like this week March 6, 2008 in the Live American Idol voted off Results show.
The Second to take the Live Stage was “wunderkind” 17 year old front runner David Archuleta. Dave Archuleta sat behing a baby grand piano and sang the Phil Collins song, “Another Day In Paradise”
David started out on the piano and then got up to finish the rest of the song.
Randy though, ” It was good, interesting song choice, some pitch problems, but it was nice”
Paula said, “some of the lower notes were off, and it’s good that you are not perfect every week like a robot, but in your imperfect pitch you are still perfect.”
Simon Cowell added, “Not as good as last week, you should have stayed at the Piano, your song choices are getting gloomy, you have to lighten it up, show your fun side. No doubt you will make it to the top 12 even the top 2”
Flamboyant Danny Noriega was third on stage with the Soft Cell song “Tainted Love“and the text message
code TMTH ( too much to handle).
Randy thought, “Some good stuff and some bad stuff, It was Pitchy, I like the way you did it thought, but you come across Shy Vocally. Go For it”
Paula added, ” I love that you are always a bright light in this competition. You are spicy, sensitive you are the real deal.”
Simon Cowell’s reaction to Danny Noriega’s version of “Tainted Love” was, “Horrible, it was useless, I hated the arrangement, I hated the vocals, I hated the performance, I didn’t like anything about it“.
Danny is the male votedfortheworst candidate and they may have their work cut for themselves if they want to keep him in the competition. Simon gave Danny Noriega the “Kiss of Death Comments” hoping he would be voted off American Idol. It didn’t work last year with Sanjaya Malakar and time will tell if it will work with Danny Noriega.
The Fourth singer of the 3-4-08 American Idol Boys Performance show was David Hernandez. He sang “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” by Meatloaf.
Randy said, ” Nice song choice, some ptich problems, but worked well with your Big Ol Voice”
Paula added, ” you’re really getting into your groove, you found your niche, you have some of the best vocals”
Simon Cowell added, ” You 100% secured your spot in the Top 12“.
You can tell Simon wants David Hernandez in the competition and Danny Noriega out. Will the outing of David H’s former job as a Gay Stripper hurt his chances in the eyes of the voting public? We will find out Live on Thursday March 6, 2008 with the live voted off American Idol results.
The 5th singer of the night was Michael Johns. “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds famous
from “The Breakfast Club” movie was Michael Johns 1980 theme night song of choice.
Randy Jackson said, ” That was so you, very nicely done, good song choice.”
Paula added, ” You define who you are, you have a great stage presence.
Simon added, ” I Liked it, didn’t love it, you are a Huge Talent, but just like some of the girls, you haven’t had your moment with a truly great song. - I really Like you.”
Michael Lee Johns did a good job and will make the Top 12 from the boys side.
The 6th singer of the evening with his guitar was David Cook. David rocked out the Lionel Richie slow song” Hello” and was the truly bright spot of the evening. Definitely worth an I-tune download or video save.
Randy Jackson stated, ” You did an EMO version of a Pop Song, It was very good. It could be recorded today and be popular.
Paula added, ” Fabulous, It would be a hit today!”
Simon Cowell added, ” It was very brave, I loved it. you took a risk and it worked. It was a terrific version.
Here is the David Cook Hello Video already
The 7th Idol to perform was Jason Castro who sang “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen. Very good job by
Jason this evening and the first time on Idol stage without his guitar.
Randy said, “You did a Good job. It was a tough song that is extremely difficult to sing.”
Paula added, ” Even with the level of difficulty you sang it and made it with ease, you are unique, your phrasing and you are great”
Simon added, “Absolutely brilliant. One of the favorites of the night. You get better and better.”
The last singer of the evening in the 8th spot was Chikezie Eze. The 1980’s theme song Chikeze chose to sing was “All the Woman I Need” by Luther Vandross and also covered by Whitney Houston.
Randy said, “You deserve a spot”
Paula added, ” Your vocals sound good”
Simon stated “It was a Whitney Houston song, It didn’t work, - not a smart move.
There you have it all of the Top 8 Boys sang tonight with standout performances by David Archuleta, David Cook, David Hernandez and Jason Castro. On the bubble performances by Danny Noriega, and Chikezie Eze and a soon to be heard again on the sing your way off American Idol because you were voted off song by Luke Menard.

i just discoverd this site and i really like it. i love to watch american idol but i have basketball which is a priority and it usually falls out on wedensdays during american idol with the occasional tuesday and thursday. last night i missed most of the show and really wanted to see it and im happy that there is a site like this that allows me to see a recap and to view all the performances.
im not too crazy about the girls this year however there are a few with pretty good vocals but i like all of the guys with the exception of luke. i want to see David Cook, David Archuleta, jason and my favorite from day one, michael johns succeed in this competition and have terrific careers ahead of them. im only baffled as to why luke hasnt gone home yet, i think hes been bad since the first performance and deserved to go home each week so far. i even though jason yaeger (or however you spell it) was much better than luke last week lol
