Blake Lewis, who is best known for his unique additions of beat-boxing to popular musical songs during the competition on American Idol has signed a recording contract. He has signed with 19 Recordings/ARISTA Records, and will release his first album later this year. Blake made the finals of this past season’s American Idol competition, before losing to this year’s winner who was Jordin Sparks. Sparks has already signed a recording contract and her album will be out in early fall. Blake’s signing was announced in a press release issued by ARISTA Records.
Blake’s album will be produced by Jonathan “JR” Rotem, Ryan “Alias” Tedder, and S*A*M & Sluggo. Rotem has had recent success as he worked with Rihanna on her number 1 single “SOS” according to the press release and has also worked with Sean Kingston. Tedder has worked with Timaland and Leona Lewis. S*A*M & Sluggo have worked with a couple of this years hottest artists in Ghm Class Heroes and Boys Like Girls.
Lewis had two of his versions of songs he sung in the American Idol competition appear on The Billboard Hot 100. These were his version of Bon Jovi’s hit “You Give Love A Bad Name”, and a remake of the Zombies “Time of the season”. He has been touring with the “American Idols Live Tour” since the show ended. The concert began on July 6th and will conclude September 22nd.
“I love performing, so spending the summer on the road has been a great experience,” says Lewis. “But I’m also enjoying my time in the studio and I’m very excited about recording my debut album. I’m thrilled to be working with 19 Recordings and ARISTA Records”
Lewis is 26 years old and was born in Redmond, Washington. According to the press release he started singing at age 5, and started competing in high school at statewide talent contests. Lewis was the most successful beat-boxer so far among American Idol contestants from that genre of music.
Lewis’ album is due for release late this year, and it is hoped that it will be as successful as many other American Idol contestants albums have been since the contest began six seasons ago. It has not always been necessary to win the competition to have a successful album and career as demonstrated by the recent success of Chris Doughtry who did not make the finals of last season’s competition.
