Chris Daughtry in concert with Ed Kowalczyk’s band Live at York State Fair?

Chris Daughtry went from “American Idol” reject to the Top of the Billboard 200 in less than a year. Now, he is headed to York with the band that rocks with his surname.

Daughtry is set to take the York Fair Grandstand stage 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 with special guest 12 Stones.

Cres Ottemiller, the fair’s entertainment director, said the board was willing to take a chance with Daughtry’s late addition to the lineup because of the band’s popularity.

“He opened for Nickelback in Hershey on Saturday, and the show was really successful,” Ottemiller said. He added that the board had already been interested in getting Daughtry.

“The show is good news for us, since Daughtry has really taken off,” Ottemiller said. He said he has already received a lot of positive feedback and is expecting tickets, which go on sale today, to sell well.

Daughtry’s long list of awards was a big factor in the decision to book the band on a Friday night, Ottemiller said.

The band’s self-titled album debuted in 2006 and recently went triple-platinum. It features the songs “Home,” which went to the top of MTV’s TRL countdown, and “It’s Not Over.” The band received two nominations for the 2007 Teen Choice Awards, which airs on FOX Aug. 26

Chris Daughtry, a longtime fan of York County native Ed Kowalczyk’s band Live, was able to perform with the group at the 2006 “American Idol” season finale.

Ottemiller said that the connection with Live might have been a factor that helped secure the York Fair concert.

In interviews, Daughtry has said he would like to work with Live again. Will the York Fair be the place where the bands reconnect?

Ottemiller said that he has not heard anything about a Live appearance during Daughtry’s set.

“If (Daughtry) happens to introduce some of his buddies during the show, then that’s all the better for us,” he said. “We like to see the association with York.”
