Will Sanjaya kill “American Idol“?
That seems to be the burning question on most fans minds. It also seems to be the intention of all the Anti-Idol fans. There is a power struggle for the American Idol Season 6. It revolves around Sanjaya. The forces of American Idol Evil include Howard Stern, Vote for the worst website and the auto dialing programs that allow one to make 100’s of calls easily.
Sanjaya Malakar has stated publically that ” he’ll win”. Simon Cowell says if Sanjaya wins, he’ll quit. American Idol Politically Correct Judge Paula Abdul, says the controversy and buzz about Sanjaya has “run amok.â€
The Sanjaya Factor started with the Web site votefortheworst, which encourages voters to keep youthful 17 year old Sanjaya Malakar on the American Idol Fox show because his weekly singing performances, include a weak voice, off-key notes and Hairstyles that has been arranged in increasingly bizarre styles. Basically Sanjaya is just a bad performer.
Next insert Radio shock jock Howard Stern who picked up on the Sanjaya Worst Factor and urged listeners to vote for Sanjaya. Add the media coverage from all the newspaper articles, TV news shows, blog posts, spoofs on Saturday Night Live, and comments by David Letterman and deejay David Lee Roth.
Their determined efforts seem to be effective in keeping Sanjaya on week after week.
Even with negative reviews from Idol judges, and his most outrageous seven small ponytails swept into a mock Mohawk — Sanjaya survived Wednesday night’s vote off and became a part of the Top 9 American Idols
South Carolina’s Chubby Chris Sligh was booted instead on 3-28-07.
Idol Show producer Nigel Lythgoe has scoffed at the idea that the Vote for the Worst site has affected voters.
“When you’re getting 30 million votes, whatever that Web site can do is just not enough,†Lythgoe commented this week.
But if the teenage idol wannbe keeps pulling in the votes and actually wins, it will undermine the very premise of the show — that the singer America loves most will win. If Sanjaya comes out on top, it may be because America hates him most.
The British show “Pop Idol,†the inspiration for “American Idol,†was ditched when Cowell decided viewers had spiraled out of control in picking winners. “Pop Idol†was scrapped in favor of “X Factor,†where contestants advance solely on the judges’ calls.
“Sanjaya winning would change the show dramatically,†said Dave Della Terza, who is behind the Vote for the Worst site.
And Della Terza points out that singing talent isn’t the only thing that makes a performance. “It makes the show infinitely more entertaining when Sanjaya comes out with a new hairdo than when LaKisha (Jones) sings another boring ballad,†he said.
Will the forces of evil and the Death Star Sith Lord Howard Stern succeed? Or will enough American Idol true fans come to the rescue and vote just a little harder each week until the Matrix style Virus of Sanjaya is removed?
The Battle lines are being drawn. What side will prevail? It’s an American Idol Jihad, and the burning question is will the general American Idol Fan take up arms and get those dialing fingers on overdrive?

Sunjaya has killed AI for me. I no longer want to watch it. He’s not even American! I don’t blame Simon if he quits. I really don’t think that America is voting for him. I agree with the folks from “Best Week Ever” all those damn telemarketers that we HATE, keep the lines tied up and vote for him. I STILL think that his sister should have made it.

I hope Simon does quit if Sanjaya wins. If Sanjaya wins, everyone working at AI should quit. If Sanjaya somehow gets into the final 3, I hope he has the sense of honor to commit AI-seppuku and take himself out of the running!!! Thanks for the breakdown of how the votes count. BTW, I’ve always thought AI’s voting system was seriously flawed. It should be limited to one vote per phone number. So what if AI received 30 million VOTES last week? How many people ACTUALLY voted?!? Definitely NOT 30 million people!!! And when it comes to album/ticket sales, those people calling in 100x aren’t going to be buying 100 cds or 100 tickets. The voting system is bogus and I scoffed at it the very first episode of AI.

I think AI has lost all concept of what the show is about. It is suppose to be about talent and who is the best singer.The AI has turned into a fashion show, who has the best hair style, best outfit, who has the best shape and ect. AI, you have just lost another fan.

Mary - are you not quite right? No one in the comments or in the article has mentioned race.
He may be winning on votes - but he isn’t being voted on by merit. People who have never watched American Idol are voting for him…. and there are many using auto dialers to do it.
It’s more of a win by technical cheating - hence the reason the smart people (unlike you) are a little upset. A lot of people really seem to care about “THEIR CHOSEN” American Idol contestant - and who wants to see someone get by for the wrong reasons?

I’m kind of sick and tired of people bashing on Sanjaya for mostly racist reasons. Let’s look at the facts:
- The judges selected him in Seattle
- The judges put him past the first cut in Hollywood
- The judges put him into the Top 24
- Vote for the Worst was actually supporting Antonella until she was kicked off
If you want to blame somebody - BLAME THE JUDGES. Shame on this fvcking website bashing a 17 year old boy because he looks too Indian, he sound “gay”, and he’s beating out other white singer. Thanks! You just motivated me to vote 500+ times for Sanjaya next week.

Thanks Kim for promoting everything that is wrong with this system. Sanjaya is in this fracas because he can’t sing and your mentality for voting for him helps keep him on. I don’t care what race he is, what his life style is but I do care that he can’t sing and he keeps coming back.
As for the race and age factors you mentioned, this is a very weak defense of him. Jordin Sparks is not white, she IS also 17 but she can sing, go figure it out—SHE CAN SING—-get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know…if your average diehard AI fan is like the author of this article ….then YES…I do hope this program goes down. Sanjaya has a nice voice. Has it occurred to you supposed “Idol Experts” that people are sick and tired of African American style hyperbolized vibratos. That Chris Richardson guy is such a try hard - its annoying. Sanjaya actually sings from the heart and is genuinely trying to be himself. Bob Dylan is a HORRIBLE singer technically speaking. Why does he have a loyal following. There is more to being a likeable artist then vocals.

Well i think that people need to stop voting for sanjaya on vote for the worst.
That is the unfair thing to do.The american idol people do need to change so only the judges get to say who stays and leaves.

I think Sanjaya deserves alot of credit. He is young, courageous, has poise, and has become the new teen idol. And I think he can sing and will sell CD’s. He is a fresh of breath air and it would be great if he makes the top three. Melinda has the best voice, buy Sanjaya has the stage charm and keeps us wanting more. Kisses Sanjaya, good luck, and I hope you win!

I have been a ‘American Idol’ watcher since the first seson started! I dont’ blame Simon that he wants to quit if Sanjaya win! If he doesnt get kicked off the show next week, I may not have resepect for the show ever agian. Yes, they help people learn how the music life is - hard to make a living, if you really push yourself. It also has brought out a lot of talent over the past few seasons. I give all 3 judges credit for it!!! Paula is a doll, Randy is the “dog” of all “dogs”, whereas Simon can be a pain in the ass but it’s all fair game!! Gotta love Simon for something, even though he does tell it like it is!! Like I said, if Sanjaya last one more week - I will not watch the show anymore. If he does win, I give him credit for being able to sing! Jordan Sparks, that girl can sing like there is no tomorrow!!! She is awsome and I would buy her CD!!!!

OMG!!! Seriously…..i dont care that sanjaya is gay or indian. I have a lot of gay friends and i am part indian. It is the fact that he cannot sing…AT ALLLL!!!! He sucks! I agree with Karla…Jordin Sparks is WAY BETTER than Sanjaya..she is black and she is 17 and she is a beautiful young lady!……AND SHE CAN SING!!! Sanjaya CANNOT!!!!!!!!!His sister was WAY better than he is…..even a person who is tone deaf can sing better than him. He needs to be kicked off immediatley. The producers should step in and just kick him off and for next year there should be a limit to 1 vote per phone number. I have watched idol since the beginning and i have never seen such fraud as this. Sanjaya sucks and there are people who are actually on the show who want and can win and can make money off of it. I thought it was bad last year when Taylor Hicks won instead of kat or Chris but DAMN….Sanjaya winning would just make us all dumber!He sucks and he needs to go!

AI has always been my favorrite show since season 1. This year has really changed. It’s really sad to see great singers leave so early. I’m sorry AI, you’ve continued your seasons for way too long, and I think this should be the last season. I was once a true fan, and had gone to two actual AI shows! Unfortunately, this has been the worst for me.

Sanjaya”already has” ruined American Idol for me and many of my friends. For the last(2)years about 20 friends would gather to watch the show. . . we quit after the 2nd week because we realized Sanjaya’s vocals are a joke. If he is one of the best 8 left from all auditions….maybe the judges need to take a year off…..because they must be as “tone deaf”as
the idiots who keep voting for Sanjaya. I predict that Sanjaya will probably be “booed” of stage when the Tour begins.

everyone has there own favorite if you watch the show… so even if sanjaya isnt a good singer, if people like him they are gonna vote for him…
im not saying i like sanjaya as a singer but sometimes people get caught up in what he wears and how hes going to look the next week and thats not the reason he should be up there…

I watch the show all the way here in the UK every week and dang, it sure feels good that Sanjaya has finally been voted off!!!! No, offence but that dude just does not compare to any of the top 10’s in anyway….now the show’s worth watching again for me!!!

Anyone who claims sanjaya is a lousy singer is an idiot. The kid has perfect pitch, he just doesn’t have a powerful voice, and i am sick of hearing all of these off-key belters. He is actually the best singer, and is so much more likeable than the fake Melinda Doolittle, or the ugly-dressing Lakisha Jones, or the off key Chris Richardson, or the bald, creepy-looking Phil Stacey, or the fake, overrated Jordin Sparks. Sanjaya, make a cd! I’ll buy it. TO the educated musicians, sanjaya you are a great singer. Keep in mind, the judges put you through to the top 24, and I voted for you the whole time, based on your talent.
