Is American Idol Season 6 Broken? How would you fix it?

There has been a lot of talk this season of American Idol about the lack of talent, the voting snafu’s and the judging process from the Hollywood Round.

Are you Happy with this season’s American Idol?

What would you fix?

One of my main beefs with American Idol has been the voting process. Instead of making us vote for our multiple favorites (especially when there are 12 Plus contestants), we should vote for who we want to leave the show. It would make more sense for the American Idol Island and the tribe has spoken that Someone needs to go, rather than 12 or 10 or 8 need to stay.

Yes we voted out XZY instead of I voted for XYZ, ABC, 123, and 456. Makes Sense to me. What are your thoughts and what would you fix?

I certainly can’t argue that Idol is a little broken. I’ve thought what you just said for years. However, they are dealing with the lowest common denominator – and trying to retrain xx million people to vote in a different way would really confuse folks.

Maybe they will due a change up next season, but I doubt it. People like to vote for their favorite.

I’d wager there’s a lot more money in it the way they do things at present…. Take the final 16 show for example… fans of (say) Lakeisha wouldn’t pick up their phones at all… they’d figure there was enough collective suck-age in the shape of Sanjaya, Sundance, Antonia, etc… that their fave was safe. The way they do it now ensures that the aforesaid fans of Lakeisha (and Melinda, and the other safe-ies) spend some money. It’s economics my friend.

    Anon,

It is economics, but forgive me if this is wrong, but when my company has an 1-800 or 1-866 Number we pay out of our own pocket for every phone call received.

Much in the same way I assume IDOL would pay for every incoming call since the customer, YOU is definitely not charged for calling in to make a vote. That being the case, and economics the issue, wouldn’t it make more sense that the call volume would be slightly lower in an attempt to create the same end result? i.e Less calls = Less Cost = Same result, One Voted off in which we call to vote off instead of calling for 6 of our favorites or more.

If the issue is economics, then Cutting Expenses of Phone calls would be a cost saving measure. I assume they keep the phone voting system in place as is, as a geographical statistics model to have instance numbers to relate and set pricing for commercial, product endorsement deals, etc

We do know however that 30 second commercials of Idol are a premium amount of $$$. The product Endorsement deals are even Higher .. Go IDOL GO :)
