One of the true stories that was told on American Idol is that of Sherman Pore.  Sherman Pore was the 64 year old gentleman that wanted to appear on American Idol in hopes of easing the pain and suffering of his female companion that was dieing of cancer. Sherman went out to get a petition of signatures to present to the judges and producers to allow him his moment to sing.

While American Idol has let contestants over the age limit audition in the past, most of those auditions have been for comic relief.  However, Sherman Pore said the reason he was auditioning was he had worked on a letter and petition to become an American Idol contestant with his lady love of twenty years while she was in the hospital because of cancer.  Sherman choked up as he said, “I believe that it helped her to keep a positive attitude, and I think it smoothed her passing and made it a little softer.”

Before his Los Angeles audition, Sherman also revealed to the judges that his lady love had passed away two days before the auditions.  Sherman sang “You Belong To Me” and actually proved to be one of the better singers from the Los Angeles auditions.  After his audition, Sherman said “I won.  I am a winner.”

Simon Cowell and the judges were touched as well as most of American Idol viewers. Simon Stood up to shake his hand, and he received hugs and kisses from Paula Abdul and Olivia Newton-John.

We hope to see Sherman Pore at least one more time. Idol Chatter and blogger across the net hope that Idol producers will bring Sherman Pore back to sing on the Season 6 finals. Petitions are starting in his favor.
