American Idol Memphis Auditions set to be televisedÂ
When season six of “American Idol” began, Jackson Central-Merry High School junior Ke’Van Yarbrough was tuned in.
“I’ve been watching since the beginning,” he said.
Yarbrough, 16, loves to sing and said he didn’t know that last September, “Idol” folks were in Memphis scouting for talent. Those Memphis tryouts air at tonight on the FOX network.
“I would have tried out, but I have a fear of hearing what the judges have to say,” Yarbrough said.
Had he tried out, Yarbrough said he would have performed the “Star Spangled Banner.”
“I hate that song, but it really makes you stretch your range,” Yarbrough said. “That’s one of those songs that can either make you or break you.”
So far, Yarbrough thinks all of the previous “Idol” winners deserved the honor, but he said he has not seen any quality singers so far this season.
“I don’t know where they find these people, but man they need to look harder,” said Yarbrough, whose favorite “Idol” champion is season two winner Ruben Studdard.
“He’s not your average person,” Yarbrough said.
Freed-Hardeman University junior Britney Clement and her friends plan to gather in the lobby of their residence hall tonight to watch the show.
“We all like watching,” Clement said.
Four FHU students traveled to Memphis last September to tryout for the show, said FHU spokesman Josh Woods.
