Country singer Kellie Pickler of “American Idol” fame came to Fayetteville Friday to collect on a bet and walked downtown with men wearing red high heels.
The Albemarle native walked with WKML air personality Larry K. Smith and her grandfather Ken Morton. The appearance was a publicity stop for Pickler’s new album that includes the track “Red High Heels” and helped raise money for Smith’s childrens charity.
Smith had promised he would walk along downtown Hay Street if Pickler called the station. Her grandfather lives in Fayetteville and heard the dare, so he called Kellie.
About 100 people came to see the star and the high-heel strut. A bit later, she received a key to the city.
