The Northern Star Contest, a Grand Forks singing competition that could take two people to tryouts for TV’s “American Idol,” has narrowed its field by half and is entering its final rounds.
Tuesday night, 11 remaining contestants will compete to stay in the race. Competition will begin at 8 p.m. in Suite 49, where judges are expected to eliminate up to five people.
The 11 remaining are: Becky Cicha and Ashley Senger, East Grand Forks; Tiff Cheliah, Mandy Dobmeier, Ashley Ford, Amber Fosse, Denae Johnson, Michelle Peck, Tony Stutz and Cindy Swartz, all of Grand Forks; and Savannah Younggren, Hallock, Minn.
Contestants who survive Tuesday’s round will have a “freebie week” performance Aug. 22, singing one song to karaoke accompaniment and one song a cappella. Contestants who audition for “American Idol” must sing a cappella. No one will be eliminated Aug. 22.
Aug. 29, judges will choose two finalists to win air fare and hotel accommodations to one of the sites for tryouts for the next “American Idol.”
