 American Idol Runner Up - Katharine McPhee Selling Out?
BEAUTIFUL balladeer Katharine McPhee , 22, could be selling out.
She revealed that she’ll probably be cutting a Top 40-ish pop album, and that her trademark strength in bluesy-jazz standards will be saved for a theme album instead.
In a separate phone interview, McPhee - who was getting her hair and makeup done and whose voice sounded severely strained - admitted she wouldn’t mind being the next Clay Aiken as an Idol runner-up has more career freedom and less pressure.
The Los Angeles native said: ‘At the results show, I had the normal nerves, but I didn’t anticipate or expect anything.
‘Taylor won, it was meant to be. I didn’t feel like I needed to win in order to be a winner, as corny as that sounds.
‘I was happy to be there the whole night performing, representing the West Coast and being the only girl (in the final four).’
On her melodramtic duet with intense rock star Meat Loaf, whom she wasn’t familiar with at all before the show, McPhee laughed: ‘At first it seemed silly to me - we’re on American Idol, not Broadway. But it worked and we put on a good little show.’
