The Voting off of American Idol Chris Daughtry was a total shock, many are in denial and disbelief over the events that transpired on 5-10-06. Some are calling it IDOLGATE, because they couldn’t get through to busy phone lines when voting for Chris Daughtry.
Chris Daughtry being voted off the American Idol Island has been a huge Buzz, and rightful so. Around the net many stories are talking about the Shocking Evening of events that transpired on 5-10-06. Here are a few outtakes.

America just might be shocked by its own decision. There have been few times in “American Idol’s” five-season run that the reality TV show has delivered a true jaw-dropper. A fan throwing a beverage at judge Simon Cowell.
Season 4’s bottom vote-getting trio of La Toya London, Chicago native Jennifer Hudson and eventual winner Fantasia.
And now this. Chris Daughtry, the rocker, the supposed sure thing, is toast. The past couple of weeks of TV talk and Internet buzz had been all but a coronation of Daughtry as the next winner of “American Idol.” But after losing a final standoff with fellow bottom vote-getter Katharine McPhee, reality sunk in.
Paula Abdul bent over at the judge’s panel and cupped her hands to her face. Later, her eyes glistened with tears.
A puzzled-looking Cowell tapped his finger to his face and blew a heavy sigh.
McPhee, who had a weak performance Tuesday night and even forgot some song lyrics, seemed surprised.
Daughtry looked stunned. “I’m a little bit in shock,” Daughtry told host Ryan Seacrest. “Surprising. Surprising,” Seacrest replied.
Fans and other “Idol” watchers may be dissecting where Daughtry went wrong from now until the show’s finale May 24.
“Idol” viewers know Daughtry as a rocker who has shunned the show’s standard pop tunes for his own raw style.
With his signature shaved dome and facial hair, the casual guy who never received vocal training, works at a North Carolina car dealership and wears a cowboy hat during his free time has brought a different flavor to “Idol” this year: performances laced with a hard, country-rock influence.
Perhaps “Idol” voters weren’t ready for it. Perhaps rock fans don’t vote as feverishly as those who support Taylor Hicks, Elliott Yamin and McPhee. Who knows? One thing’s for sure: “Idol” is finally rocked out.

Reality Tv Magazine had this to say:
Chris Daughtry fans on the other hand probably assumed that he was likely safe thanks to Katharine’s struggles. In fact if the judges hadn’t been so harsh on Katharine, it might have actually woken up Daughtry fans to the fact that he was at risk. Daughtry’s performances were actually quite good, but he played it safe. Elliott Yamin went for the knock out, and he nailed it. Even if Elliott goes home next week (which we don’t think he will), American Idol viewers will likely never forget the night that Elliott slayed the giant.
While Daughtry was the favorite among most odds-makers, at least two Internet search engines predicted his ouster, saying he had the least number of search hits among the final four contestants.
Taylor Hicks, Elliot Yamin and Katharine McPhee moved on to next week`s competition when the number will be pared to two in preparation for the ‘American Idol’ May 24 finale.
   Guess not.

“Surprised?” Host Ryan Seacrest asked an unsmiling Daughtry, visibly caught off guard.
The 26-year-old rocker, drowned out by loud boos and screams of “No!” replied: “Yes.”
The other “Idols” stood speechless, mouths agape. Even the judges _ usually unflappable _ didn’t foresee Daughtry’s ouster: Simon Cowell’s jaw fell slack; Paula Abdul’s eyes filled with tears.

The “American Idol†contestant – who alternately screamed and sang his way to the final four – was given the heave-ho by voters last night, leaving the rocker visibly stunned when host Ryan Seacrest told him he was on his way home.
“Uh, I’m a little bit in shock,†said the follicly challenged 26-year-old from McLeansville, N.C.
Many – including judge Paula Abdul – predicted Daughtry, one of the season’s favorites, would make it to the end of the contest.
“See you in the finals,†Abdul said Tuesday night. Guess not.

Chris Daughtry, the Greensboro-area rocker who was considered a likely “American Idol” finalist, was cut Wednesday, one night after delivering a stirring performance of Elvis Presley music.
“I’m a little bit shocked,” Daughtry admitted after his ouster was announced.
Before being selected for the show in Denver auditions, Daughtry, 26, of McLeansville worked days as a service advisor at a Honda dealership and sang at night in a Triad-area band called Absent Element.

American Idol Fans are upset. But what can be done? Do we petition for a recount like a presidential election? Should the voting process be revamped. Is their some sort of Electoral College American Idol voting system where votes from California are weighted more? Humm so many controversial things. IDOLGATE 2006!!
