On the Tuesday 5-9-06 American Idol Final 4 song presentation show, the Idols took on songs by legendary King of Rock Elvis Presley.  Each Idol performed two songs each from the Presley Song catalog. The show opened up with Taylor Hicks performing.

In true Taylor Hicks “Soul Patrol” Fashion, “Jail House Rock” was the first selection. Taylor had his hair “combed” into an Elvis style and gyrated and danced all over the stage while performing. Taylor mentioned “Soul Patrol” 5 times during the evening!

Randy on Taylor Hicks 1st Song:
“You are in your element now.” “it Felt Good”

Paula on Taylor Hicks 1st Song:
“You were phenomenal.”  “Fantastic”

Simon on Taylor Hicks 1st Song:
In the Real World this would be a Terrible impersonation of Elvis”, ” Horrible, Just karaoke with a Capital K”

The 2nd Idol to perform was Chris Daughtry. Chris Sand “Suspicious Minds” while wearing some hideously large 50’s style sun glasses.

Randy On Chris Daughtry 1st Song:
“It was nice.  I don’t know if it was your best vocal performance for me.”

Paula  On Chris Daughtry 1st Song:
“See you in the finals.”

Simon On Chris Daughtry 1st Song:
“Besides the Glasses That Worked”

Next up was Richmond Va’s Elliott Yamin.  Elliott sang “If I could Dream”.

Randy Jackson On Elliott Yamin 1st song:
“I think personally that was your best performance ever.” 

Paula Abdul On Elliott Yamin 1st song:
“I think this was your best performance this entire season.” 

Simon On Elliott Yamin 1st song:
“Best performance so Far”

The Third Idol to perform was Katharine McPhee.  Katharine mixed ” Hound Dog” and ” All Shook up” in to a medley. She stumbled with word or her breathe in the middle of the song and stopped singing for about 2 seconds.

Randy On Katharine McPhee’s 1st Song:
“What Happened their in the middle”

Paula On Katharine McPhee’s 1st Song:
“It was really fun seeing you dance up there.”

Simon On Katharine McPhee’s 1st Song:
“It was like a desperate manic audition. Shreiky. Was not a great performance.  Hope you have a better 2nd song”

The Idols then performed their 2nd song.  Taylor Hicks sang  ”In The Ghetto”.

Randy said, ” It was the right Key, the right song, and when you make an Album this is what you should do, HOT!

Paula Abdul said “This was a Whole Different side of you. This brings it to show how well rounded of an artist you are.”

Simon Cowell said “Taylor, what you have just done, you have just sung your way into the semi-finals.”

Chris Daughtry sang ” “A Little Less Conversation” for his second song.

Randy Jackson said “Right song, Right Key. That was hot.” 

Paula Abdul said “There’s nothing else I can say, I adore you.” 

Simon Cowell said “Up until the end, it was quite a flat performance actually. It was OK, The first song was better”

Elliott Yamin Followed up for his 2nd song with ” Trouble”
Randy Jackson said “I think personally that was your best performance ever.” 

Paula Abdul said “I think this was your best performance ever in this competition.” 

 Simon Cowell said “Elliott, I’ve got to hand it to you tonight.  You’ve come out fighting.  You’re showing personality.  You know what, you deserve to go through to the next round.”

Final performer Katharine McPhee Sang ““Can’t Help Falling In Love.” 

 Randy Jackson said “It was definitely better than the other one I thought.” 

 Paula Abdul said “You have a lovely voice.” 

 Simon Cowell said “What I wanted was apple pie on it’s own, instead I’ve got apple pie and a gallon of cream on top. Not your best night - Over the top- Too Much, You didn’t pick the right songs.”

Over all the American idol Final 4 contestants did a good job.  According to just the Judges, Elliott Yamin and Taylor Hicks had the best evening, while Chris Daughtry and Katharine McPhee were slightly less entertaining.  It’s in your hands American.  Who did you vote for?  Elliott Yamin had the best performances, however I think the smallest fan base.  Elliott might still be going home!!
