Expectations never met reality and for this quasi reality TV show American Idol there were some pratfalls -Â ( Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee singing from the stage Floor).
The Fab Five American Idols were to perform one song from the year of their birth and one song off of the contemporary top charts.Â
The show opened up with Elliott Yamin, (From Richmond Virginia). “On Broadway” was the song choice for Elliott, who revealed he chewed his fingernails while he was young. Randy Jackson thought it started rough but worked out towards the middle. Paula Abdul agreed with Randy. Simon Cowell thought it was a bit disjointed, and told Elliott he was lucky to have 2 songs tonight.
Paris Bennett was the 2nd Idol to perform an she sang the Prince song “Kiss“. Randy was happy that Simon couldn’t say it was an old song. Paula says that everyone knows Paris can sing. Simon called it screeching and annoying.
Chris Daughtry was the 3rd Idol to perform and sang the Old STYX song “Renegade“. It Rocked! Randy thought it was a hot one. Paula called it outstanding. Simon said it was a million times better than the first two.
Before Katharine McPhee was to perform, Ryan Seacrest talked about the “Wardrobe Malfunction” of last week. Apparently a button had fallen off, but we do have the pictures and photo evidence in this site as well. Katharine McPhee performed Phil Collins “Against All Odds“. Randy didn’t think it was in the right key for her, saying it was too low. Paula said it wasn’t her favorite performance from her. Simon said that in parts it was a mess and it ran away from her. Kat said she knew she was losing it. While Kat and Ryan were talking, Simon interrupted, saying that it wasn’t one of her best performances. Apparently he got the impression that that’s what they thought he said. Simon seemed Love Stuck with Katharine now that his Little Minx Kellie Pickler is at a County Fair Near you Singing.
Taylor Hicks Brought us Wild Cherry “Play That Funcky Music White Boy”. Taylor Hicks ended his song flat on the floor. Ryan Secreast came over and laid down beside taylor to talk to him in a bit of a bizarre interview.
In the second round of Contemporary songs and wardrobe changes, Elliot Yamin preformed “Home”. Randy said it was nice to see Elliott’s tender side. Paula agreed that it was nice to see a different side of him. Simon said he wasn’t sure that he would choose a song with the lyrics “I want to go home.” He felt that it wasn’t enough hook or wow factor.
Paris Bennett in the second round sang “Be Without You” . Randy said it was pitchy. Paula said it was difficult to catch a vibe like Mary J. Blige. Simon disagreed with Paula, saying Paris did rather well with that.
Chris Daughty sang “I Dare You.” Randy said that Chris’ voice sounded like it was starting to give out. Paula said that the song wasn’t her favorite, but she loves Chris. Simon didn’t think it was a great song, and it really sounded like Chris’ voice was going there. Chris said that it’s the 5th time he’s sang the song today.
Katharine McPhee gave us “Black Horse and Cherry Tree”. Randy said it was a wild show tonight. He said this is more like the Katharine he grew to love. Paula loved the choreography and intimacy. Randy said that Simon loved the toes which she painted in a aquas color to match her top. Simon said it was a strange show, this one was different and younger, and showed off more personality.
Taylor Hicks pulled off and upset and picked a Beattle song by taking a top song from the Album charts Taylor Hicks Sang “Something” . Randy said he chose a great song. Paula said it was daring to sing a song like that. Simon said it was clever picking that song, and that it’s easy to forget with all his “something”ness that he’s a very good singer.
To Close the evening the American Idol Judges Gave their final thoughts. Randy said it was a wildly unpredictable night. Paula said it was different and interesting. Simon called it erratic, but gave himself a 9.5 out of 10 tonight when Ryan asked him.
My Prediction on Eviction is Still Paris Bennett.
