American Idol Fan Site | Who got voted off American Idol

American Idol picked their top 12 tonight, with a couple surprises. Nearly all of our posters here on Curlio.com figured Will, Kevin, Kinnik, and Melissa for the going home pile. This week we were only half right! I’m ashamed of all of us! I’m actually rather disappointed with the top 12, as I thought the second guy and girl eliminated were rather good. The guy had a pretty good performance yesterday, and the girl had loads of promise. Oh well, on with the recap!

After the standard recap, Ryan Seacrest brought out Bo Bice. Bo talked about being a daddy. He apparently sings to his son, who is fond of Jim Croce, James Taylor, and naturally Lynyrd Skynyrd. He sang his single “The Real Thing.” I’ve heard the song on the radio a few times, it’s pretty good.

Then we were at the first elimination. The girl with the lowest votes wasn’t Lisa Tucker, Ayla Brown, but indeed as 60% of curlio.com voters thought, Kinnik Sky. Randy Johnson told her to keep working on it and believing in yourself. Paula Abdul called her a brilliant talent. Ryan didn’t want to talk to Simon Cowell but he nicely just added that it was nice to know Kinnik. Kinnik sang again, but not better than the first time. She then thanked everyone back home.

The guy with the lowest vote ended up being, as predicted by our poll, Will Makar. Will thanked everyone and said he learned a lot. Paula said she was proud of his growth. Randy told him to work hard and discover who he is as a singer. Simon told him he handled himself as a gentleman. He told him that whatever he goes into, with that kind of attitude he’ll be successful.

Then it was time to send 6 girls to the top 12. Paris Bennett, Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler, Mandisa, and Lisa Tucker were sent to the top 12, leaving Ayla Brown and Melissa McGhee to wonder which one of them was safe while we went to a break. After the break, Randy said that he thought Ayla would go on. Randy was wrong and Ayla went home, while Melissa got a spot on the top 12. Ayla seemed rather upset, and talked about being as passionate about singing as she was about basketball. Randy told her to keep working hard. Paula told her she was a winner. Simon told her it was the song, not her. He was very nice, telling her to hold her head up. She sang again, but she was very upset so it wasn’t too good.

Would the guys hold a surprise as well? Taylor Hicks, Ace Young, Chris Daughtry, Kevin Covais, and Elliott Yamin were given the first 5 mens spots on the top 12. Gedeon McKinney and Bucky Covington would wait until after the break to find out who went home. Simon said Gedeon would go on, and once again the judge was wrong. Bucky was safe while Gedeon went home. Gedeon said he was surprised, but thanked his fans telling them this wasn’t the end. His performance showed all that they definitely made a mistake!
