American Idol Season 8 Starts January 13 2008
AMERICAN IDOL, returns for an eighth season in January with a 2 day premier starting January 13 and January 14th. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, the runaway hit series empowers viewers to discover America’s next solo singing superstar by voting for their favorites to win the coveted title. Last season, AMERICAN IDOL was the nation’s No. 1 television series.
Every year, tens of thousands of hopefuls from across the nation audition for a shot at stardom and a chance to be the next American Idol. The show’s judges – Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson – winnow down the competitors to a select group of semifinalists who sing their hearts out each week for the studio audience and the television viewers. The judges have their say after every performance, but it’s the viewing public that determines who will advance to the next round of the competition and who will go home. Voting via telephone and text messaging begins immediately after each performance show, and the results are announced during the following night’s broadcast.
Eventually the competition is narrowed down to two finalists who compete for a major recording contract and the American Idol title. Past winners Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks and recently crowned David Cook have already risen to the top of the recording industry.

American Idol New Judge Kara DioGuardi
For season 8 of American Idol, the producers decided to add a 4th judge to the mix of Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell, by bringing on Judge Kara DioGuardi.
Kara DioGuardi is described as “One of the industry’s most sought after songwriters and producers, DioGuardi’s songs have appeared on more than 100 million records. Her songs have been recorded by Grammy award-winning artists including Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Santana, and Pink. Scores of major recording artists including Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Pussycat Dolls, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Natasha Bedingfield, Jewel, Ashley Tisdale, Katharine McPhee, Taylor Hicks, Bo Bice, Clay Aiken, Ashlee Simpson, Hilary Duff, Jessica Simpson, Kylie Minogue, Enrique Iglesias, Nick Lachey and Marc Anthony have also released DioGuardi’s songs.”
Season Eight of American Idol begins Tuesday January 13, 2008 at 8 pm and again on Wednesday January 14, 2008 in a two day 4 hour event.
